Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of John Horgan, former Premier of British Columbia.
“John was more than a leader; he was a passionate advocate for the people of British Columbia and all Canadians. He committed himself fully to public service, believing in its power to bring meaningful change and improve lives.
"John was a champion of British Columbians and a trusted partner and ally to the Yukon. Under his leadership, British Columbia and the Yukon built a strong relationship advancing reconciliation and real action on climate change —efforts that benefited Canadians from coast to coast.
"Beyond his many accomplishments, John will be remembered for his kindness and authenticity. He brought warmth and humour to every conversation and his remarkable ability to bridge divides made everyone he met feel valued and understood. His courage and optimism, especially during his battle with cancer, were an inspiration to us all.
"John Horgan leaves behind a legacy that will shape our path forward and remind us of what true public service means. On behalf of all Yukoners, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and to all who were touched by his compassion and leadership.”
